Easter 2008

We had a great Easter weekend. Truett's first easter egg hunt and his 2nd Easter with our family was a blast. He is getting to be so much fun. God knew how to balance mommyhood. When one thing becomes easier another thing becomes harder.

By the way, I believe Truett is almost ready for some potty training. When I take his diaper off he looks at me and I say "tee tee", he immediatly begins to do so. The he looks at me and smiles and says "teeee"! I'll keep you posted! But, for now, here are some Easter pictures!

Happy Easter!!

Baaaaa

That is what you hear when Truett wants a BATH! And don't say bath too loud or he might follow you to the bathtub! Here is a recent bath excursion. He is showing you some of his dance moves... he must get that from his daddy! :)

Schedules: why are they so good for you?

After watching an episode of wife swap (portions of it), I thought about our schedule and wondered if we were too strict or too lenient in our daily schedule. As you probably know, the show matches up two families that are complete opposites in this case there was a family who schedule so much into their day that they spent little to no time together and were bombarded with activities during the summer that would make anyone complain. Yet, on the other hand there was a family that spent all day doing nothing. Such extremes, but definitely a point worth making.

We are a family of schedules. We were so "scheduled" that when Truett arrived it threw us into a 180 whirlwind. He was demanding and whiny, we didn't know what to expect and hated not knowing even more. So, to the precious advice of many a dear friends we bought a book called BABYWISE. Yea, yea, I know I've "mentioned" it many a times, but, let me let you in on a little secret. The very first night I began reading the book (I hadn't completed but a few chapters), I went to bed with an assurance that things would get better and I had a game plan. Once we implemented this simple schedule, we noticed a huge improvement of disposition and noticed that we seemed much more calm.

Fast forward to now, over a year later and my day is full of schedules: breakfast time, awake time, workout time, nap time, lunch time, alone time, play times, nap time, supper time, family time, and finally bed time! This is everyday and is only changed for special occasions (family comes in to visit, church, vacations). I enjoy the flexibility and security of a schedule, and think he does even better than I do.

There is definitely a risk of going overboard but I believe having a schedule sets you up for a balance, full, successful life.

Stay tuned, Easter pictures to follow......

I need some recipes!

For anyone who knows me, you know I've never been a cook. Before having Truett, Wayne and I would usually cook together, he would cook and I would clean, or we would dine at a restaurant's. Both, Wayne and I worked and shared just about all household chores and responsibilities. Then we had Truett! It is not practical nor is it financially responsible for us to do this. Since I stay at home with Truett, I try to plan as much as possible. So, dinners are no exception. I have been trying different recipes: Giada, from the FoodNetwork.com and one from one of my favorite blogging momma's 4littlemen.blogspot.com. We have enjoyed one from her: Chickpea Curry, it is yummy and soooo easy, and who knew bulgar (a substitute for rice) was so good! If you have any fast, easy, AND healthy (or at least somewhat) we would LOVE to try it. Send it to me!!

Sorry, no pics today!

Monday Madness on a Thursday?

Let me see, last Friday, late afternoon, Truett had a virus and a fever of 104.8...... ouch! He was fine or maybe just a little whiny right before his nap and then BAM when he woke up he was on fire I finally got the fever to come down some but after not being able to get in touch with our doctor for 2 hours we decided to go the ER. We were not sure what the source was but didn't want to end up there in the middle of the night or Saturday or Sunday! Poor thing was just lackadaisical, they gave him a dose of Motrin (since it had been 3 hours since I had given him Tylenol). By the time we went home Truett was squealing and talking and having a good time, it could have been due to being up an hour past bedtime! The sweet ER doctor said he would be fine but to keep giving him motrin for the fever. That was our first visit to the ER... I don't want to go back anytime soon either.

Truett has been wanting to go outside but due to the weather we weren't able to go until today, we were outside for nearly 2 hours after lunch. He is an outside boy. He loves to explore and make up new words. He is still saying pretty much the same things: ball, balloon, baby, book, bath, (see a pattern?), then there is : shoes, outside, and ccccc for candle, clock, or cookie.

While he was unable to go outside we tried to keep him occupied by letting him do some house chores, j/k! We have read A LOT and taken a few more baths than usual. He also enjoys playing hard with daddy!

Visiting with my favorite people

Pawpaw is my very best playmate!
But Mawmaw gives good loving!

Spring time has sprung

Our afternoons are spent OUTSIDE. If there is a way to be outside, we are there! Truett loves exploring, but somehow outside is above and beyond that. When we say "out-side" he says "ou-hide" and walks with us to the door. We are enjoying the fire out of each other.

We went outside today to get some sunshine before the cool front tomorrow. We probably won't make it out for a day or two due to the rain and cold front coming through. So, here is a couple of pictures to get you through your day!

Friday Fun!

This is what we've been doing today. There were 5 ladies (including myself), 6 kids and one on the way! Us, ladies, enjoyed visiting with other grownups and the kids seemed to have a great time as well. Truett was having a great time kicking his feet and thrusting his hands around. He has been doing that for a few weeks, he gets so excited he has to use all extremities to get all the energy out!

Here is all of the children minus Maddie, she was being camera shy. All of the little girls were sweet angels and it makes me want to add a princess to our bunch, although, not yet!
So, after a long week I'm going to try and enjoy my weekend off. Wayne has to leave Sunday for a seminar on Monday, boo! My plans for next week are to read a lot and work on consistency with training Truett. Wouldn't it be nice if they came already trained! :) I guess we can't get off to easy...

Have a great weekend!!!

Monday Madness!!

Wayne and I had a looooonngg day on Saturday, we went all over south Louisiana and were pooped after 13 hours in a car. Truett had a wonderful time with Maw Maw.

Today, we had a great morning with Aunt Cole and Kerigan. Kerigan is getting so big and is such a beautiful little girl!
Truett has been teething, again. He tries to eat everything. Today has been one of Truett's grouchiest days he has had since before Baby Wise training. I think it is a mixture of teething, messed up days (the last 3 days), and lack of mommy's good ole' fashioned discipline. You see he was with Maw Maw and no offense but she is a pushover when it comes to Truett. She lets him do as he pleases and it doesn't go over very well with our house rules. Sunday was spent at church, today has been spent over at Nanna's with Aunt Cole and Kerigan. He is use to 2 (1.5- 2 hour naps) for the last 3 days he has had 1 (2-2.5 hour nap). Needless to say, thank God for tomorrow. We will spend it getting on track and I will be cleaning while he is napping. I have so much to get done.
Kerigan is a true princess and was such a pretty one at her party. We had a good time, except for Truett's whining! Happy Birthday, sweet Kerigan!!!!!!!

Weekly Wrap-up

Truett has been coughing a little today, nothing alarming but we stayed home from working out at the Athletic Club. Tonight, if all goes well, Truett is spending the night at Maw Maw's and will spend tomorrow having fun with her and Paw Paw and G Maw Maw and Paw Paw. He loves hanging out with his grandparents and mommy and daddy enjoy their break. Although, Wayne is going on a run and I'm going with him. See, we work when we have a day off :) With the recent storms Wayne has been very busy with his claims. We will try to eat somewhere while we are gone, but there is no telling he has a lot to get done.

Next week we have an exciting schedule. Aunt CoCo, Uncle Keith, and Kerigan are coming in for her 1st birthday party on Monday. So, we will spend most of the day with them. The next few days will be spent cleaning the house because on Friday I'm having some ladies over for lunch, I'm so ready for some adult conversation and not just with Wayne. They are bringing their little ones so Truett will have lots of playmates here. I am so excited!

Fun afternoons, "BIG" boy haircuts, and swings!

We love bath time!

"Hello?"

So, I wanted to update you all last weekend, but as you can tell that didn't happen! We had a gorgeous weekend 2 weekends ago. We went to a local lake called Lake Buelow, we went walking on some trails in the woods. There were lots of hills and Truett loved the fresh air and towering trees. We would walk him up the hills in his wagon and then run down while the other would take a picture at the bottom of the hill and try to catch Truett's laugh and windblown hair. Which brings us to his hair... it was long, really long. When we got home from church that Sunday he got his first "big" boy haircut. Not too much off, but nonetheless, a much needed cut. Wayne did it since he didn't "trust" me to cut his little man's hair. We won't let Wayne know he did gap his hair up :)
